Last December I came up with a plan. Now that we finally have a functioning airport, I thought, wouldn’t it be nice to highlight some of the things that are so special about the interior of El Maestrat? Its food, unspoilt mountain villages, history, emerging wines, diversity of artists and of course its spectacular masculine beauty. Rugged, chiseled, call it what you will, but definitely not a green English rose garden type of beauty.

I approached a beautiful vineyard with my plan and they came on board. Then I tried to get someone else to take over, but that did not work so I ended up trying to do something I knew nothing about. Originator I might be, but event manager I certainly am not!  Not so easy and especially not in a different language without contacts. But it happened in the end.

July 23rd we had the opening party and Tim did the video and the music was great, both the jazz trio and Charlie McKeon. There was food. Oceans of wine. Good company. And everyone enjoyed the art.  It certainly was an atmospheric and enjoyable evening. Then for the next month the exhibition continued and whoever dropped by got a bit of lovely wine as well.

Tim went back to Liverpool and put together this lovely video in-between traveling back and forth to London. In time both Spanish and English subtitles will be placed in the relevant sections of the video. It would be nice for us all to understand eachother, don’t you think?

With nurture and love I hope my small seed will take root and continue to grow and expand and become something very special. Ojalá I have the energy and help to do another one.  Certainly the reaction has been overwhelmingly positive and ideas for the future have been flooding in.

We had quite a few chinwags around Felix’s stone table at the masia in the ensuing weeks.  A professional bilingual restaurateur has come on board. With any luck I will persuade Felix to join in. I found a good organic wine at Aldi that helped everything flow in the right direction. Okay, maybe not so good, certainly not on the level as that of Clos d’Esgarracordes.  But cheap and at least it is organic (really?).

¡Vive el Maestrat! will probably be a biennial event to allow time to find artists and different venues and also those involved to have time to relax!  So, follow me – ¡Experience el Maestrat with your friends!  Get on that plane to Castellon.

El diciembre pasado se me ocurrió un plan. Ahora que por fin tenemos un aeropuerto que funciona -pensé- ¿no sería bueno destacar algunas de las cosas que son tan especiales del interior del Maestrat? Su comida, pueblos de montaña que no han perdido su belleza natural, historia, vinos emergentes, variedad de artistas y por supuesto, su espectacular y masculina belleza. Escarpada, cincelada, llámala como quieras, pero definitivamente no es el tipo de belleza del verde jardín de rosas inglés.

Me acerqué a una viña preciosa con mi plan y se unieron. Después intenté conseguir que alguien más se hiciera cargo, pero no funcionó; así que acabé intentando hacer algo de lo que no sabía nada. Inventora podría ser, ¡pero directora de eventos desde luego que no! No es tan fácil y especialmente en una lengua diferente y sin contactos. Pero al final tuvo lugar.

La inauguración fue el 23 de julio y Tim hizo el video. La música fue genial, tanto el trío de jazz como Charlie McKeon. Había comida, la mar de vino, buena compañía y todo el mundo disfrutó del arte. Definitivamente fue una tarde evocadora y divertida. Después, durante el mes siguiente la exposición continuó y quien quiso pasar también tuvo un poco de vino delicioso.

Tim volvió a Liverpool y montó este precioso video en los viajes de ida y vuelta a Londres. Mientras, los subtítulos en español e inglés se colocarán en las partes pertinentes del video. Sería bueno para todos nosotros entendernos, ¿no crees?

Con alimento y amor espero que mi pequeña semilla se arraigue, continúe creciendo, expandiéndose y convirtiéndose en algo muy especial. Ojalá tuviera la energía y la ayuda para hacer otro. Desde luego la reacción ha sido abrumadoramente positiva y las ideas para el futuro han ido afluyendo.

Tuvimos muchas charlas en la mesa de piedra de Félix en la masía las semanas siguientes. Un restaurador profesional bilingüe se ha unido. Con suerte convenceré a Felix para que se una. Encontré un buen vino orgánico en Aldi que ayudó a que todo fluyera en la dirección correcta. Está bien, quizás no era tan bueno, realmente no al nivel del de Clos d’Esgarracordes. Pero barato y al menos orgánico (¿De veras?).

¡Vive el Maestrat! será probablemente un evento bienal que dará tiempo para encontrar artistas y lugares y también a los que se impliquen ¡tiempo para relajarse! Así que, sígueme- ¡Experimenta el Maestrat con tus amigos! Coge ese avión a Castellón.
